Daniela Pierson, Artistic Director

Daniela Giulia Pierson is a music teacher, director and performer based in Philadelphia. In addition to directing MSO, she teaches violin at the University of Pennsylvania and maintains a private studio of elementary and high school students.

She is principal violist of Tempesta di Mare and has performed on violin or viola with many early music ensembles including New Trinity Baroque, Early Music New York, Harmonious Blacksmith, Clarion Music Society, New York Collegium, La Rocinante, and Washington Cathedral Baroque Orchestra. She has appeared at the Magnolia Baroque and Newburyport Festivals, Festival Internacional de Música Barroca de Barichara, and as a guest artist with Chatham Baroque.

Ms. Pierson grew up in Philadelphia, attended Greenfield, McCall, Masterman and Central High School, studied at Settlement Music School and was a member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra. After graduating summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Urban Studies, she moved to Italy and began working with an Italian traditional music ensemble. Over the next several years she toured as a violinist, percussionist and dancer with several groups based in Rome and New York City. On her return to classical music, she studied with Karen Ritscher at Mannes College of Music on full merit scholarship, and early music with Marilyn MacDonald, Cynthia Roberts, and Riccardo Minasi.
